On Tuesday, Marvel took us higher, farther, and quicker with the release of the first Captain Marvel trailer, that gave fans their first explore Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel.

As the picture is set within the 1990s, the trailer also features some shots of Marvel establishments Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) when getting a dose of that terrific CGI youth humor. Here, then, with the assistance of some slowed-down GIFs, are 3 things we learned from the Captain Marvel trailer.

One of the massive moments in the trailer is Captain Marvel completely decking an old lady on a bus. It’s visually stunning to observe memaw’s gray hair whipping as Carol’s hand meets her face — and bluntly funny, because sucker-punching septuagenarians isn’t how Marvel superheroes are supposed to act.

What’s being tacit here, though, is that Carol sees one thing the rest of the population, together with the audience, doesn’t: She is aware of that this old lady is really a Skrull, a part of an alien race with the ability to shape-shift. They use this power to infiltrate and spy on their enemies, thus it stands to reason that the lady Carol is punching could be a Skrull. (Or, as an alternative and fewer likely, that the one that looks like Carol could be a Skrull who’s going around punching innocent recent ladies.)

This tells us that Carol encompasses a Skrull-detection ability, that seems to be important to Nick Fury.

Marvel hasn’t really explained (nor should we expect it to, because it might defeat the purpose of the movie) what motivates Skrulls other than they're villains of the film and they’re enemies of the Kree, another alien race that Carol happens to be allied with. but in an extremely brief scene within the trailer, it seems that a young Nick Fury and 2 other characters are gifts while a Skrull body is being examined:

Considering alien autopsy scenes are typically used to convey the {idea|the thought|the concept} that the humans have no idea what they’re addressing (see: Independence Day), it is smart for Fury to track down Carol to clarify the appearance of Skrulls on Earth, and maybe inquire concerning AN at hand invasion.
In the comic books, Carol Danvers is granted powers like super strength and flight through a freak accident involving an exploding Kree device. Now, there’s no hard rule that movies must follow everything that happened within the comic books (nor is there a rule that comic books can’t change what happened in the past, AN act conversationally referred to as a retcon). however, there’s a scene in the trailer that might reference Carol’s superhero origin story:

Disclaimer: this could all not be Carol Danvers, simply someone with the same hair and physical stature, and could even have nothing to do with the voiceover during this scene, that directly refers to Carol.

But if this is in truth Carol, the factor to notice during this bright explosion is the uniform she’s carrying. It’s not the inexperienced metal suit she wears once she’s crashing down to Earth at the start of the trailer — it's sort of a dark green Air Force jumpsuit. And if this explosion is going on whereas Carol is in her garment, it signals that she’s still human once this is occurring, and this might be the explosion that gave her her powers.

That in mind, it sounds like the aftermath of that scene is that this other moment from the trailer wherever Carol, in her jumpsuit, is knocked down. The setting (the dusty, rocky field and also the trees) looks to be the same


If this can be so, however, Carol gets her powers, it feels like the movie will then fill us in on however an earthling with powers eventually created her way to marching with Starforce, the elite military force of the Kree

There will be another villain in the movie

The most puzzling component of the trailer is who we tend to see Carol going up against when she assumes her identity as Captain Marvel. in a new red-and-blue uniform that’s totally different from both her Starforce uni and her Air Force jumpsuit (see: the fingerless gloves), Carol appears to be preparing to fight a being in an exceedingly black spacesuit. we tend to don’t see his or her face, however, it feels like this isn’t a part of Fury’s team, nor does the uniform appear to match the suits worn by the Skrulls we see within the trailer:

While the movie’s synopsis is pretty clear that Carol is stuck within the middle of a war between the Skrulls and the Kree, and though we’ve detected reports that Skrulls are the major villains within the film, it wouldn’t be shocking if there’s a twist and a secondary villain shows up to crash the party (think of the twists in Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2).
